The guy behind The Authority Shift

Hi. I’m Duey.

I’m not a lifelong marketer, a self-proclaimed guru, or somebody who has figured out the secret to success.

I haven’t.

I’m simply someone who pays attention, asks a lot of questions, and isn’t afraid to question the way things have always been done.

I’m Duane “Duey” Palen, a branch manager at Fishman Flooring Solutions in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and the creator of The Authority Shift.

A belief I’ve carried for a long time

How you treat people matters.

Trust has to be earned, and being yourself will take you further than trying to become somebody you’re not.

Those beliefs followed me into the online world.

In May 2026, when I began building The Authority Shift with help from ChatGPT, I noticed good people working hard to build online businesses while their profiles told me far more about the company, product, or opportunity they promoted than about the person behind it.

What if people spent as much time building trust in themselves as they did promoting everything else?

Then came the rabbit hole

So I started learning.

Observing.Experimenting.Questioning.Sharing.

I explored personal branding, self-development, trust, communication, first impressions, and the way we present ourselves to other people.

Some observations became ideas. Some became resources. Eventually, some grew into The Authority Shift.

What grew from the questions

Ideas became things people could actually use.

Putting the Profile Shift into practice

What I changed on my own Facebook profile.

My positioning used to lead with “Creator of TAS.” I changed it to explain who I help and the result I want to help them work toward.

My pinned post previously led with “START HERE → meetduey.com.” It now opens with “POSTING MORE WON’T FIX A MESSAGE PEOPLE DON’T UNDERSTAND,” explains the four Shifts, and points to the free assessment.

My cover now says: “Build trust. Start better conversations. Create more business opportunities.” The website link tells visitors to see how The Authority Shift works.

These are changes I’ve made to improve clarity. They are not claims of increased sales or measured conversion results.

Underneath all of it

I’m still just Duey.

I’m learning as I go, sharing what makes sense, questioning what doesn’t, and probably drinking a cup of coffee while I’m doing it.

No guru nonsense. No pretending. Just one person sharing what he’s learning with another.

What I believe

The principles behind everything I share.

01Trust should support the attention you earn.

02Give people a reason to trust the person behind the offer.

03I favor useful relationships over unsolicited pitches.

04Your personal brand should clarify who you are—not merely what you sell.

05You don’t need to pretend to be an expert to become worth listening to.

06Simplicity usually beats unnecessary complexity.

Before asking for more traffic, check what people find when they arrive.

What I stand for

  • Authenticity over image.
  • Clarity over confusion.
  • Connection over spam.
  • Education over manipulation.
  • Long-term trust over short-term hype.
  • Real conversations over fake engagement.
  • Being human over trying to look perfect.

What I’m probably never going to love

Trust is earned by becoming more of who you are—not by pretending to be somebody else.

What kind of person am I?

Straightforward.Practical.Observant.Curious.Relatable.A little sarcastic sometimes…okay, all the time. 😂

I’d rather tell you what I actually think than tell you what I think you want to hear. I’ll get some things right. I’ll probably change my mind about a few things. That’s part of learning—and I’d rather be honest about that than pretend otherwise.

Why keep following me?

Maybe the better question is:

What can you expect if you do?
Straight answers.Practical ideas.Things I’m learning.Things I’m questioning.Observations that may make you think differently.A little sarcasm.Probably a fair amount of coffee. ☕

I’m not interested in teaching people how to become better advertisements.

I’m interested in helping people become someone worth paying attention to.

☕ Pull up a chair. I’m glad you’re here.
